2008.03.17 | TIBETANS AT THE UN.
the protesters are corralled a bit sideways -
a little out of view -
some people received some images by email from Tibet.
they show corpses of people - many apparently teenagers
shot in the back.
a girl tells me "china is going to collapse"
some show tears - some show anger -
the ones that have family in Tibet do not want to be photographed.
their relatives could be hurt -
they yell "china lies the U.N. listens" "china lies people die"
I wonder what is the point of protesting against the UN
after all China invaded Tibet, the USSR invaded Afghanistan, the USA invaded Iraq, and the UN could not stop.
and Taiwan got kicked out to give the seat to the PR China.
After all the countries that have veto power can get away with whatever plans they have.
I don't want to appear to jaded - but i wonder realistically what are the chances of Tibet - when most of the world depends on China's exports and cheap labor.
Tibetans get sympathy but not much else.
millions of ipods are made in China and I wonder how much would they cost if they were made here.
anyway
what is the difference between the invasion and settlement of Hawaii by the white people and the invasion and settlement of Tibet by the han people?
maybe less repression and violence - but still a foreign occupation against the locals' will.
